Contract Held Since 1951

History-In 1951, DynCorp (then known as Land-Air) developed the "Contractor Field Team" (CFT) concept with the U. S. Air Force and was awarded the first CFT contract. The idea was to provide a rapid response, mobile workforce of highly skilled aircraft sheetmetal and electrical technicians to provide maintenance support to the U. S. Air Force at remote locations. The concept was an obvious success and by the end of 1951, there were approximately 68 employees assigned to the "Field Team" contract who generated $541,000 in Revenue.

Over the next 50 years, Contract Field Teams continued to refine and grow with significant milestones achieved along the way. In 1956, DynCorp dispatched the first Contract Field Team in support of the U. S. Navy, and in 1957 DynCorp dispatched the first Contract Field Team in support of the U. S. Army. Never straying from the concept of dispatching Teams to remote locations, DynCorp provided 1,200 CFT employees to provide Aviation Support to the U. S. Army in Vietnam from 1964-1971 and 660 CFT employees to provide Aviation Maintenance/Supply Support to the U. S. Army and U. S. Marines during Desert Shield/Desert Storm from August 1990 to December 1991.

Today-Contractor Field Teams still provide quick response capability using teams of contractor personnel which can be dispatched to any Government installation worldwide to provide emergency maintenance assistance and other depot level maintenance or modification of U. S. Government-owned equipment. In less formal language, Contractor Field Teams remain a quick-reaction, highly mobile workforce of various sizes used to augment the services provided by Government personnel at Government facilities.

The current workforce supports all branches of the U. S. Military and is composed of over 2,800 highly skilled supervisors, inspectors, mechanics, electricians, sheetmetal workers, painters, supply technicians, and computer operators. These individuals perform maintenance, modification, and logistics support of aircraft, aircraft engines, engine test cells, aerospace equipment, communications equipment, missile weapons systems, meteorological equipment, track and wheeled vehicles, and support equipment. In addition, Field Team employees provide shipboard services, supply support, engine test cell operation, test pilots, instructor pilots, aircrew services, non-destructive testing, computer programming, engineering services, and hazardous waste management. The combined efforts of these employees generated over $170M in Revenue for 2000.

Field Technical Services currently has Field Teams assigned at approximately 27 overseas locations and at 32 stateside locations ranging in size from 1-845. Some of the major work sites are: Germany; Korea; Kadena AB, Okinawa; NAWC-AD Patuxent River, MD; Solomons, MD; Fort Campbell, KY; Fort Hood, TX; St. Juliens Creek, VA; NAS North Island, CA; NAF El Centro, CA; NAS Point Mugu, CA; and NAS Jacksonville, FL.
